The Organization

Board Oversight
MEND Canada is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that provides responsible oversight for our finances and operations, including:

Ensure management conducts MEND Canada's business and affairs in accordance with our objectives, the laws and regulations of the jurisdictions in which we operate, and any policies and guidelines issued by the Canada Revenue Agency regarding charitable organizations.

Terry Sedgwick is the founder and co-owner of Train-X (California), which he established in 1995 out of a deep passion for the physical and mental health benefits of exercise. In 2023, he founded MEND Canada, a non-profit dedicated to increasing physical activity and sports participation among Indigenous youth. Terry is committed to helping individuals achieve their goals in a positive and creative environment, believing that fitness is not just a dream but a daily necessity.

Partnerships, Communications and Culture
Provides strategic leadership and vision for the organization’s fundraising and marketing/communications strategies. This includes ensuring the people, partnerships, and systems across MEND’s network are aligned to meet the organization’s fundraising goals, advance MEND’s overall brand, and move the mission forward. Sets bold fundraising targets and leads development and marketing/communications efforts to meet those goals successfully.
Strategy and Programs
To articulate the organization's strategy to ensure long-term sustainability. This includes providing strategy and operational advice from early organization development through to execution and ongoing operations. Advises regarding emerging trends to support the continuing success and growth of MEND Canada.
Operational Effectiveness and Accountability
Oversees the organization's day-to-day administrative and operational functions. This includes developing and maintaining budgets, establishing and maintaining policies and procedures, overseeing the review and processing of program applications, managing bookkeeping, and assessing performance by evaluating data and metrics to recommend process and procedure improvements.
