MEND Canada will work with Indigenous governing bodies to verify age and status. Children and youth who live both on and off reserve are eligible.
How We Work
ELIGIBILITY
Indigenous children and youth from 4-18 years old at the time of registration and can provide:
Any child over the age of 6 MUST be registered in school
Proof of age (i.e., birth certificate)
Status card, or
Letter of support from their community, or
Other means to support proof of Indigeneity (acceptance at the discretion of the selection committee).
OUR COMMUNITIES
MEND Canada is pursuing a community-by-community approach, connecting with Elders, leadership, and parents in various Indigenous communities initially in Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan).
Once the program is established, MEND Canada will expand participation to all Indigenous children and youth in Canada. MEND Canada is mostly delivered online (e.g., application for funding). However, some components, like meeting with community Leadership and other community representatives, including recreation and education directors, may occur in person in the community.
HOW TO APPLY
Indigenous children wishing to participate in the program must have a parent or legal guardian fill out the
MEND Canada application. Upon status verification, the next steps link and approval letter will be sent to the parent or guardian who completed the application (monies are subject to availability within each community).
WHEN TO APPLY
The application process is continuous. Applications should be submitted before the start of the program, ideally at least 8 weeks (2 months) before fee payment. Applications submitted later may not be approved before funding is required.
