Denise Mullen
Director, Environment, Sustainability, and Indigenous Relations at Business Council of British Columbia
Denise Mullen is a YWCA Women of Distinction Nominee (2024), recognized for her extensive contributions to policy, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. She is an economist, statistician, and accomplished policy analyst, researcher, regulatory advisor, and writer, with expertise spanning climate change, biodiversity, and environmental assessment.
With decades of experience, Denise has worked with all levels of government, businesses, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders to develop policies, legislation, and regulatory frameworks. She has played a pivotal role in major project permitting and the construction of information technology systems. Notably, she was one of three process-specific experts responsible for developing British Columbia’s environmental assessment legislation and continues to provide advisory support to both industry and government in this critical area.
Beyond her professional career, Denise is a passionate athlete, dance artist, and advocate for sport. She has competed in figure skating and cycling and embraces the outdoors through kayaking, hiking, backpacking, and skiing. For over 40 years, she has been a dedicated volunteer in sports—organizing events, judging competitions, and supporting her children through their elite athletic careers.
